About Bengle Cave

Bengle Cave(崩勒溶洞)is located at the top of Bengle Sacred Mountain(崩勒神山), Herima Village(何日玛村), Sangduo Town(桑多镇), Riwoqe County(类乌齐县), Chamdo Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region with an elevation of 4300 meters. BBengle Cave is formed because of the geological movement of the earth’s crust. It is named after the top of the mountain. According to the historical records of the sacred mountains, the mountain was recorded as the sacred mountain of the Buddha, and the footprints of the Buddha and the marks of the writing of the ancestors.

Bengle Cave is gourd-shaped, which extends to the top of the mountain with the narrow hole which can only allow one person passed, and then gradually open, the cavity is divided into three layers, 67.5 meters deep hole, hole at its widest point for more than 360 square meters, a maximum distance of 16.8 meters. There is a lot of solution emulsion lava stalagmites carnation readily visible, karst colors, very attractive. The lotus Buddha’s practice cave, the tethered stone, the giant whelk that can play the sound of the conch is adding the mystery and charm of the cave. Mountain and holes in the perfect combination of god, religious mystery and the wonders of nature landscape be in harmony are an organic whole, make the “avalanche” cave higher visibility. Each year, the cave attracts numerous believers from Riwoqwe County and other counties nearby circling mountain here to pay pilgrimage.

The cave is about 18 kilometers away from the county seat, and the big car all pass. It takes about one and a half hours to walk around the mountain road from the foot of the mountain, and the difference between the cave and the village is 450 meters.

How to Get to Qamdo Riwoqe County

Air
Located in the Bangda Grassland, the Chamdo Bangda Airport is the world’s highest airport and has the longest runway. It is 136 kilometers (84.5 miles) from Chamdo County. As the first lateral airport in Tibet, Chamdo Bangda Airport started to be built in 1993 and finished in October, 1994. At present, it has air routes to/from domestic cities including Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lhasa, Tianjin, Xian, and Xining; meanwhile, flights to/from Nepal are also operated at this airport.

Passengers can take airport shuttle bus to Riwoqe County from the airport.

Bus
The Prefecture is over 1,200 kilometers (746 miles) from Chengdu and over 1,100 kilometers (684 miles) from Lhasa. Every week at least three buses travel between Qamdo and the two cities. Apart from regular buses, the tourist bureau sometimes sends special buses to Lhasa for visitors. It usually takes 10 days from Lhasa to visit Riwoqe.
