What to Wear in Lhasa in June

The average elevation of Lhasa downtown is about 3,600 meters. The average temperature of Lhasa in June is 10-24 . You will feel comfortable and cool in the daytime, but kind of cold at night. In June, during the day, you can wear shirts, trousers, thin T-shirts and other cool and breathable clothes made of cotton and linen. If you spend a long time outdoors, you are advised to wear sunglasses, hats or other sunscreen products. For night activities, such as shooting the night view of the Potala Palace and visiting Lhasa at night, it is recommended to wear a windproof coat to keep warm.

What to Wear in Shigatse in June

The altitude of Shigatse downtown is about 3800 meters. Shigatse has a 200 meters altitude difference and 1℃ temperature difference with Lhasa. In June, the average temperature is 9-23℃, with cool daytime and relatively cold night. Travel to Shigatse from Lhasa in June, the temperature of the two places does not change a lot, so you can wear the same clothes as Lhasa, long sleeves, trousers and sun protection in the daytime, and coat before and after sunrise and sunset. Although the temperature at night drops, the hotel basically has heating and cold protection facilities.

What to Wear at Everest Base Camp in June

The Everest base camp is about 5,200 meters above sea level, about 1,600 meters higher than Lhasa, and the average temperature is about 8℃ lower than Lhasa. In June, the average temperature of Everest base camp is around 5-16℃. Travel to Mount Everest from Lhasa via Shigatse, you are suggested to bring down jacket and fleece-lined outdoor jacket and trousers. If you go to Mount Everest in the daytime and won’t stay overnight there, long sleeves, trousres and windproof and fleece-lined outdoor clothes are enough. If you want to stay overnight at Mount Everest, and watch sunrise, sunset and starry sky, you need thick down coat. And you can rent the clothes at Everest Base Camp.

The average altitude of Ngari is 4500 meters above sea level, and that of Mount Kailash tourist area is 4700-5100 meters above sea level, with an altitude difference of about 1000 meters with Lhasa city. The average temperature difference is about 7℃ lower than Lhasa. It’s a little warmer than Everest base camp. In June, the average temperature of Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarova is about 6-18℃. And even in the summer, the temperature is low there. Ngari in June is still in the early spring weather, you are supposed to wear multiple layers of clothing, long sleeves, trousers with fleece-lined outdoor jacket and pants. The wind is strong in Ngari because of rare vegetation, so wind proof and sun protection are important. 

What to Wear in Nyingchi in June

The average altitude of Nyingchi is about 3000 meters, 600 meters lower than Lhasa, and the average temperature is 3-5℃ higher. However, due to the dense vegetation and tree-lined Nyingchi, the highest temperature is not too high, and even cooler than Lhasa. The average temperature of Nyingchi in June is 10-25℃. When you go to Nyingchi from Lhasa in June, you don’t have to bring extra warm clothes. Long clothes, long sleeves and thin coat are enough.

What to Do in Tibet in June

June is the peak tourist season in Tibet. Almost all scenic spots in Tibet are opened. In June, Tibet is less visited, but the scenery is good and the weather is awesome.

  • Shannan and Nyingchi in the southeast of Tibet is characterized by varied topography, mainly river valley and dense vegetation. June is a good time to visit mountains and rivers in Tibet.
  • Lhasa and Shigatse in central Tibet are very comfortable in June. People will not feel hot when visiting monasteries, palaces and other attractions with high flow of people. Even if you spend a long time outdoors, you will not feel too sunburnt. Namtso Lake and Mount Everest are popular among tourists. 
  • In Ngari and Nagqu with higher elevation, the weather in June can be described as warm, the feeling of early spring, slightly cold, and the time when wildlife activities increase. The probability of seeing wild animals is greater.
