Samzhubze District Dining

There are some recommended specialties and some famous  restaurants in Samzhubze District, Shigatse City, Tibet.

Wuerduo Mansion(吾尔朵大宅院 ):Located diagonally across No. 10 Zhade West Road.

Yagubai Food Plaza(亚古白美食城): Located in Xigezi Pedestrian Street(喜格孜步行街), Samzhubze District.

Yixiang Hand Grasp City(伊郷手抓城): Located in No. 7 Xinjie Street(新街7号), Zanglong Plaza(藏隆广场), Samzhubze District.

What to Eat

  • Cheese (干酪)
    There are two kinds of cheeses. One is the substance from milk after being extracted butter. After boiling, it condenses into the solid form before pressing it to the various shapes. The other is done by boiling in the buttermilk before drying it and cutting it into thready or granular shapes.
  • Tsampa(糌粑)
    Tsampa is known as the national food of Tibet. Tibetan paoplae may have this every day. It is usually made of ground barley flour and often mixed with butter or yak butter tea.
  • Tingmo(馍馍)
    Tingmo is a type of steamed bun or bread. It is usually served along with other foods but sometimes it is stuffed with meat or cheese. This is a good choice to stow your belly when you are very hungry.
  • Yak Tongues(凉拌牦牛舌)
    The unique and precious yak tongue of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau which is more tender and delicious than normal cow tongues and the original yak tongue is sliced and served with special chili sauce, especially delicious.

What to Drink

  • Tibetan wine (藏酒)
    It is a kind of low wine at twenty to thirty degrees, made from wheat or highland barley after ferment. Fresh and mellow, Mangkang county and Yadong county is most famous for Tibetan wine. 
  • Buttered tea (酥油茶)
    It is the main drink of Tibet. In the winter, you can dispel cold. If you feel starved, it can satisfy your hunger; if you are sleepy, buttered tea can assist you in relieve from fatigue. Hospitable Tibetans often entertain guests with this tea, so you are suggested not refusing them, otherwise you are considered impolite. 
  • Highland Barley Wine(青稞酒)
    A type of beer made from barley. It is served either at room temperature or very hot.
