Most Beautiful Places in Tibet

Tibet is famous for its magnificent and marvelous natural scenery. It is featuring vast territory, spectacular landforms and rich resources. Since ancient times, people in this land have created a rich and colorful ethnic culture. When it comes to the most beautiful places in Tibet, people will undoubtedly say Potala Palace, Mount Qomolangma, Jokhang Temple, Namtso Lake, Yamdrok Lake, Mount Kailash, and Lake Manasarova, etc. Surely, they’re really beautiful, but today we’re going to list some places that people don’t often mention but are beautiful.

Namcha Barwa

Mount Namjagbarwa in Nyingchi is believed to be the most beautiful snow mountain in China. Namcha Barwa, lies on the junction of the Himalayas, Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains and the Hengduan Mountains, is the highest mountain in Nyingchi, Tibet autonomous region of China, with an altitude of 7,782 meters. It belongs to the Himalayas and is located at the eastern end of the Himalayas. 

Niyang River

Niyang river is a very beautiful river, and it is a tributary of the Brahmaputra river. In the Tibetan language, river is called “Qu” and lake is called “Tso”. So Niyang River is called Niyang Qu by Tibetans. Along the Lasa river valley all the way to the east, gradually higher, climb over Mila Mountain Pass at the altitude of 5013 meters, and continue to the east, you will enter the valley of Niyang River. 

Nanyigou Valley

Located in Nanyi Township of Mainling County in Nyingchi, Tibet, Nanyigou Valley(南伊沟) is rich in vegetation and water, with lush grass and well-preserved primeval forest. Nanyigou valley, at the altitude of 5200 meters above sea level, is rich in animal and plant resources, known as the “highest green fairyland on earth”. The mysterious and primitive Nanyigou Valley is the largest inhabited area of the Lhoba ethnic group, the smallest ethnic group in China. The total number of the Lhoba people in China is about 3,000, they believe in primitive Chinese shamanism.

Lulang Forest

Located on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, about 80 kilometers east of Bayi Town in Nyingchi, Lulang Forest(鲁朗林海) is 3,700 meters above sea level. It is a typical strip of highland mountain meadow. The forest consists of bushes in the green mountains on both sides and dense spruce and pine trees. In addition, a large number of birds inhabit here. Every year from mid-April to early June, thousands of wild flowers bloom. Clouds, snow mountains, forests and field outline a quiet and beautiful picture.

Ranwu Lake

There is famous Lhegu Glacier in the north of Ranwu Lake. The glacier extends to the lake. When the glacier melts, the snow water pours into the lake to keep the lake rich in water. On the mountainside by the lake is the vast forest, and then above is a belt of colorful rhododendrons and bushes. There are overlapping undulating snow mountains by the lake, filled with snow perennially at the top of the mountain.

Peach Blossoms Valley in Nyingchi

Every March and April are also the off-season for tourism in Tibet, as it is winter in other areas except Nyingchi, which enters spring. However, the number of tourists will start to increase at the end of March every year, mainly because of the peach blossom festival in Nyingchi. The peach blossom season in Nyingchi is from March 25 to April 15 every year. Nyingchi is already in spring because of its low altitude, and peach blossoms are blooming under the snowy mountains. The peach blossoms of Bomê County is the most beautiful in Nyingchi, with largest scale. 

Zongjiao Lukhang Park

Zongjiao Lukang Park(宗角禄康公园), located behind the Potala Palace, is the best place to take photos of the reflection of Potala Palace due to the lake in the park. It is also a favorite leisure place for Lhasa people. You can fully experience the leisure of Lhasa, and there will be Tibetan opera performances during the festival.
