The original building covered an area of 12,000 square meters, seating on the east side facing the west, and mainly consisting of the halls, the Buddhist temple, the temple of protection, the kitchen, and the monk’s house. The buildings were destroyed during the Great Cultural Revolution and was later rebuilt on the original site in 1988. It is now composed of the main hall and the pagoda. Sanglin Monastery has a long history, only 30 meters from Sanglin Monastery to Puqu River in the south, Kading Mountain(卡定山) is lying in the north, Esa Mountain(俄萨山) lying in the west.

Before sun rising every day, the graceful outline of the terraces had been looming in the early morning light, and stood at the top of the monastery, looking down, the scenery is just like an elegant ink painting. When the sun rises from the east, the red light is projected on the village nearby, meanwhile with the rise of the sun the color of surrounding changes a lot.
