Lhasa Gonggar Airport, located in Jiazhulin town of Gonggar County, Shannan, is the only international airport in Tibet. It is located on the south bank of the magnificent Yarlung Zangbo River, with an altitude of 3,600 meters. The runway is 4,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. About 85 kilometers away from Lhasa city center, the airport is a 4E military and civilian international airport, which is one of the highest airports in the world and the largest aviation hub in Tibet autonomous region. There are frequent domestic flights to Lhasa Gonggar Airport from Beijing, Chengdu, Xian, Shanghai, Chongqing, Kunming, Shangri-La, etc. and daily international flights from Kathmandu. Tourists can take a flight to Tibet conveniently and then take a regular bus to Tsedang Town. There is a junction of three roads outside the airport where tourists can wait for the regular bus and it costs about 40 yuan per person.

Lhasa Gonggar Airport

With an elevation of 3569.5 meters, Lhasa Gonggar Airport is one of the highest airports in the world, and is a 4E class civilian airport serving Shannan. It was built in 1965 and put in operation in 1968, becoming the first airport in Tibet. The airport is provided with a runway of 4,000 meters. Built in the wide valley of Yarlung Tsangpo River (also called the Brahmaputra River), it can provide the launching and landing of Boeing 747, Airbus A340 and other Large Aircrafts. Lhasa Gonggar Airport is 85 kilometers from Lhasa Urban Area.

Gonggar Airport-Tsetang Town, Shannan

There is a three-way intersection at the airport. Waiting for the shuttle bus on the side of the road, there will be a shuttle bus from Lhasa to Tsetang Town, Shannan, and the fare is about 40 yuan. If there are many people, you can consider chartered cars, which can reach Tsetang Town directly. The price of the four-person Poussin is between 150-200 yuan. From Tsetang to Gongga Airport, take the bus from Tsetang to Lhasa and tell the driver to stop at the airport.

By Shuttle Bus

There are airport shuttle buses from and to Lhasa, which takes about 40 minutes at the price of 25 yuan/person.

Airport-Urban Area: The airport shuttle bus departs from Gonggar Airport to Civil aviation administration(in the east gate of Potala palace). Departure time is flexible.Urban Area-Airport: Bus departs from Aviatic Hotel in Niangre South Road to Gonggar Airport, the time is 06:30, 07:40, 08:00, 08:30, 09:00-13:00(every 60 minutes), 13:00-14:30(every 30 minutes), 17:00, 17:30, 19:30. It is suggested to reserve 2.5 hours before the departure of the flight.
Urban Area-Airport: Bus departs from Aviatic Hotel in Niangre South Road to Gonggar Airport, the time is 06:30, 07:40, 08:00, 08:30, 09:00-13:00(every 60 minutes), 13:00-14:30(every 30 minutes), 17:00, 17:30, 19:30. It is suggested to reserve 2.5 hours before the departure of the flight.
