Namcha Barwa is the highest peak in the eastern of the Himalayas, the south side of the turning of the Yarlung Zangbo River, at the junction of the Himalayas and Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, with an altitude of 7756 meters. The height ranks 15th in the world’s highest peak, it is the highest peak of 7000 meters. The huge triangular peak is covered with snow all the year round and covered with clouds, so it is difficult to see its true appearance. The altitude of Gyala Peri Mountains(加拉白垒峰) is 7294 meters, it is just only 20 kilometers away from Namcha Barwa.

To see these two steep peaks, the best season is autumn. At this time, the autumn is clear and the chances of seeing them are much higher. There are two easily accessible viewing places, one is at door of Sejila Mountain Pass(色季拉山口), another is at Daduka Village(大渡卡村) and Zhibai Village(直白村) near Pai town(派镇).

Day 1 Nyingchi- Pai Town

Transfer from Nyingchi to Pai Town(派镇) before your hiking tour.

Day 2 Pai Town- Lage拉格 (30 kilometers, hiking about 9 hours)

You will get the transfer station after hiking 5km from Pai town. The transfer station is like a bazaar which is made up of a disorderly concentration camp. Some rooms are even without floors. There also have some small shops, small restaurants and hotels. Here you can buy fresh fish from the Yarlung Zangbo River, 4 CNY of 500g.

After about an hour and a half of walking down the mountain, you will arrived at a small hotel, the bed all in here made by wood.

Day 3 Lage- Hanmi (22 kilometers, hiking about 7 hours)

Hanmi(汗密), 1900 meters above sea level, is a famous leech area, especially after the rain, There will have some places to rest and eat along round. After walking for two and a half hours, it will pass through a cliff depression, which is called Dayan cave. It takes another 5 hours to reach Hanmi and there are several accommodation and food stations.

Day 4 Hanmi- Beibeng Township(背崩乡)(24 kilometers, hiking about 11 hours)

It’s 5 hours’ walk from Hanmi to Arnie bridge(阿尼桥) via tiger mouth. There are two wooden sheds for accommodation. It takes about 7 hours from the Arnie bridge to Beibeng township. The road goes down the Manion River(马尼翁河) to Beibeng Township, which is 850 meters above sea level. There have electricity and accommodation in the countryside.

Day 5 Beibeng township- Medog County(28 kilometers, hiking about 10 hours)

The road from Beibeng Township to Medog is wider and gentler than before, but it is mainly dirt road, so it will be very muddy after rain. Yarang Village(雅让村), the last Menba Village(门巴村庄) not far from Medog, should watch out the dog attack.

Day 6 Medog County

After arriving in Medog, you need put the record in the local public security bureau first. Recommend live in Guest house of Forestry Bureau in Medog and can rest 1-2 days here. There are color TV sets and electric kettle, 25 CNY/ person.

Hiking Equipment

Light walking shoes or high top military rubber shoes and Leggings, rainproof bag. (Because the road section is often wade into the water).
